The Artist

I choose to work in clay because, of all forms of visual art, ceramic is essentially of the earth.  It is symbolically linked to ever changing life, including my own.

I trained as an artist, but left it to pursue a career in law.  After nearly forty years I returned art and found something quite different than I had as a young person.  I know now that the work that I do as an artist is my spiritual journey and my path to understanding myself and the world I live in.

In essence, most of my sculptures are an exploration of the relationship of the interior to the exterior, both figuratively and literally. The theme of organic change manifests itself in various ways, sometimes explosive, dynamic and at turns, gentle. Always, there is a sense of movement in my work. This movement is very important  for artistic purposes, but also symbolically.  With time we are all moving, growing, changing in this life.

I am gratified that I can share my intensely personal vision and that people so inclined may find an understanding of my work on several different levels.
